
FIS SnowKidz Award
Finalists for the first FIS SnowKidz award selected
As announced at the 2009 Calendar Conference in Cavtat-Dubrovnik (CRO) last May, the 2010 FIS Centennial Congress will see the presentation of the first FIS SnowKidz awards. This new award was launched to recognize and promote the best examples of bringing children to the snow in varying national circumstances. The first award will be presented at the 47th International Ski Congress in Antalya (TUR) on 4th June 2010.
The FIS Member National Ski Associations were invited to submit their projects to compete for the award. A total of 22 applications from 18 National Ski Associations were received with 9 applications coming from Aid & Promotion developing ski nations.
With a month remaining until the 2010 FIS Congress, the SnowKidz Awards jury has completed its task of selecting the eight finalists. The jury, consisting of Satu Kalajainen (FIN), representing the FIS Youth & Children’s’ Coordination Group, Essar Gabriel (FRA), head of IOC Youth Olympic Games and Riet R Campell (SUI), President of International Ski Instructors’ Association, has selected the following projects for the final round (in alphabetical order):
· Barnas Skiklubb (NOR)
· Maine Winter Sports Center, Healthy Hometows Program (USA)
· Naltar Ski School (PAK)
· Schnee kinderleicht – Bewegtes Land (GER)
· Skibus (Suusabuss) (EST)
· Skilly Day (ITA)
· Snow Day (HUN)
· Teach the Teachers to Ski (FIN)
The selection of the top three will be made by the FIS Council in Antalya. All finalists will receive an award of CHF 5’000, with the top 3 receiving additional CHF 10’000/8’000/5’000, respectively.
